Enni's glossy brown stomach heaved with effort as she staggered to a small stand of trees at the edge of the Peaceful Lake and lay down, gasping for air. She realized she had arrived a little too late for comfort, not like she might miscarry or anything. Just...a little late for comfort.
Suddenly another worry crossed her mind. Who's foal would it be? Before she had any time to think further and deeper, a spasm of pain sent her squeezing her eyes shut and mentally calling for help, her bloated stomach moving with what was inside. No time now to worry whether it was a filly or colt, Soldier's or a stranger's. Enni planted her hooves that were on the ground firmly, and stayed in the position she was in, fearing to move for another burst of pain. Whether she liked it or not, it ebbed away and gave away to another flash of blinding pain, ripples going through her abdomen. Now would be the good time for advice, anyone! she thought.
A minute later the spasms of what she thought of torture gave way to the first light of her life. Now she had time to worry whether it was a filly or colt. But when she first laid eyes on her, she was beautiful. A dark brown coat, like the strangers, with a mix of Enni and Soldier's eyes that looked amazing on her, so cute and large. Enni nudged her and she scrambled to under her belly, and Enni realized she needed to nurse, and she had actually produced milk, and stood up painfully and sore-fully to let her. After another minute, the filly licked her small mouth and let out a small whimper and a whine. "Cute girl." Enni whispered, now not really caring who's foal it was, only that it was a girl. Nevertheless, she was amazing. She had just given some thought to her newborn daughter's name, and bent down and whispered it into her ear while nuzzling the light of her life. "Moonlight Sonata. Born under the light of the moon." Enni sighed, it was a beautiful name.
Now, even though she loathed doing it, she had to bring her to Soldier. Enni had contemplated just keeping her here so she wouldn't have to trade her, but somehow decided not to, however hard it was.
Nuzzling and nudging Sonata, she led her to the edge of the land, rested for a couple hours, let her nurse and play a little, admiring her while she could, and lead her back to The Clearing.
