Something cracked. Little legs jumped and scurried to the shadows. Heart was pounding. Sweat beaded on her neck. Eyes shined, frightened, the edges white from being so wide. Nostrils were flared. Breathing was deep. Chest went in, out, in, out at a rapid pace. Small tail flicked at the hindquarters. A shiver was sent down the flicka's spine. A head appeared out of it's hiding spot, checking if the coast was clear. Little ears flicked uncertainly, unknown if the danger was waiting or if it had passed. Something scraped along her withers. She squeaked before taking off again, a sidelong glance towards the outside, thinking that whatever it was was chasing her. Please, please don't let this be my dying moment... Her mind hoped while her heart beat to the frantic rhythm of a thunderous nightmare. The lights had all been turned out. The moon was not there. The stars were not there. There were eyes, but she did not want to see who owned those eyes. Euphoria skittered this way and that as she heard noises unknown to her. She threw her head up and down. She wished to be next to her mother, so soft and warm was she, and so protected. So safe. The trees, they screamed at her and tried to snag her and tried to take her hostage, tried to make sure that when daylight shone its beautiful head, it would beat down on a chestnut filly who was never to wake again. The owls' hoots sounded like the impersonations of a crafty equine, ready to slaughter her, let her blood shed down onto the ground, marking the place where a little flicka had lost her life while traveling through unknown and supposedly protected lands. But no. This land was not protected. All one had to do was waltz right in and take the life of a small one to do its bidding, then swiftly fly out of here without anyone noticing. And they say this land is protected. Protected from what? The sun? The leaves rustled, twigs cracked, and she was flying. Flying to the safe haven of Forever and Nevermore. Where the creatures were nice. A tree up ahead, the vines swooping down as if to protect even the tiniest foal. She rushed in, the encasement what she was looking for. It was her Forever. It was her Nevermore.

Onyx ears went up as a mare with misty grey eyes looked around into the forest, hearing much rustle and movement from it. She found this rather frightening as she began to back up, until she heard the squeak of what sounded to be a filly. She blinked and scented the air, catching a whiff of a young mare in her nostrils. She assumed that the poor thing was scared by something, and had done the thing she knew best; ran. She slowly began to enter the forest, a little intimidated as she every so often took in the scent of the filly to lead her on the right path. In the end, she stopped in front of a tree with vines cascading down to the floor, and was just able to take sight of a filly, that looked to only be a year, in its recesses. She looked in gently as she flicked her creamy tail and twitched her onyx ears, timidly speaking with a soft though gentle tone,"Hello...? Are you alright?" She ever so slowly took a few steps closer, her hooves giving off only a light thud as she pressed her muzzle against the vines to let the filly take in her scent, to let it know she was a mare that meant no harm.

Oh no oh no oh no there was someone out there. She tried to hide deeper within the confines of the tree's leaves, but there was no way. The mare had made her out. The chestnut filly quickly got up, going behind the trunk of the tree. She heard the question but didn't answer. The muscles underneath her dull coat shook like an earthquake. Her small ears seemed hidden behind her head. Her eyes were wide with fright. No one was supposed to find her. This was her seclusion, her own little slice of nightmarish paradise. She quickly took a peek from behind the tree to see the mare still standing there.

Julia took a step back in slight surprise when the filly hide behind the trunk, and pricked her ears in curiousity. She thought as she watched her, She seems scared to death, and all I did was speak. The poor girl, something really must have startled her. Her expression turned to a gentle one, and not moving anymore to not scare the filly, she spoke ever so softly,"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I am Julia, I heard you earlier and was worried you were hurt. You don't have to tell me your name if you don't want to, I was just concerned if you were hurt or not. Do you want me to go?"

The six month old Euphoria looked out again at the black mare. Black. As the night. As the storm. As the creature that killed her mom. She didn't want her to go, because then anything could come for her. Where was her mom anyways? "Euphoria." She said quickly, making sure to hide behind the truck once more. Maybe she could make a quick escape...but would her mom find her?

"Euphoria..." she let the name sink in before giving a gentle smile, and not moving once more as she was amused by this filly. She flicked her onyx ears and tilted her head, keeping that gentle composure as she softly spoke,"Where's your mother dear? I'm sure she's worried sick about you." She looked around the area, seeing how it would intimidate Euphoria with it's narrow paths and wild branches. She heard something behind her, at first startled, but not wanting to scare the filly anymore, she turned and whinnied in attempt to scare the creature off. Once she did this, a brown rabbit shot from the bushes and away in fear.

[size=1["I don't know. There was a storm and a kitty..." She said, her voice fading away softly as she thought about it. Her mom survived. She had to. She heard the rattling and then the mare whinnying, and then something shot out. Euphoria shot out from behind the tree, fleeing behind the mare, watching the bunny find another hiding spot. Oh dang, she showed herself! She looked up at the mare, backing up slowly away from her, not knowing what to do.[/size]

Julia listened, her greyish blue eyes with a slight haze to them it seemed began to fill with slight terror as she came to the realization that her mother may not be back. She sensed Euphoria behind her and turned her head, giving a gentle smile until she saw her back up in fear. She slowly turned as to not scare the filly and stood still, not intending to move closer as she softly asked,"I understand if you don't want to, but maybe you can come with me for a while? I don't have a herd yet, but I'm sure I'll find one soon!" She gave a positive snort while looking kindly at her.

Did she want to go with her? Or didn't she? The little one looked at the big mare before looking around. Well, it'd be better than staying here, would it not? She nodded her head slightly, taking it as a yes. Another twig broke and she scrambled behind the mare again. It was just a bird flying off because the stick wouldn't hold him. But to her, to was death coming to knock on her door.

Julia softly smiled at the filly and gently nudged her in comfort, showing her it was okay. She pricked her ears forward as she blew air out of her nostrils, and slowly lead the filly out the way she came into the forest, nickering or snorting at anything that seemed to be lurking in the brush. She kept her head high and posture correct as she wanted to make Euphoria feel safe and comfortable around her. She finally made it to the clearing where the lake was, and rose her head as she looked back at the filly,"Come, Surprise is waiting for us. He's a very nice stallion, and there's another foal there that you could play with." Her voice was soft and highpitched, though extremely gentle as she waited for the filly to respond.

She followed behind Julia, watching at all sides, trying to make sure that nothing was going to jump out at them. She also helped with that. The rhythmic sound of her steps and her tail swishing was sort of soothing. She listened to them, calming down slightly more and more. Her high-pitched voice squeaked once more at the prospect of another little foal running around, but her heart pounded quicker at the thought of a stallion. Someone else to meet. Oh no.

"Is something wrong Euphoria?" Julia softly asked the filly, her eyes showing concern as she tilted her head. She knew Surprise would be displeased if she didn't hurry home, and she didn't want her filly to get in trouble. She nudged her gently, giving her a reassuring nicker,"I will protect you I promise. I won't let anything get you." Her voice was filled with truth as she looked at the filly with a gentle smile, quickly warming up to her.

She nodded, stepping a little closer toward Julia, her new adoptive mother? Lets go home. She said, confidence in her voice a little bit more. She hurriedly caught up so that she was walking side by side with her.

Julia gave a gentle smile and nodded, beginning at a trot and lightly carrying herself back to Surprise's herd...
